When combined with numerals and nouns, the nominal classifiers, in Thai and Zhuang, both languages of the Tai sub-branch of the Kam-Tai branch, show both similarities and diversities in terms of their grammatical distribution and functions. This paper observes the distribution of nominal classifiers in various endocentric substantial structures, and analyzes their similarities and differences in distribution features and their grammatical functions. It argues that Thai and Zhuang are distinct in their manners of expressing the two granunatical meanings of categories and units： Thai differentiates the two functions of categories and units by way of different distributions of nominal classifiers while Zhuang expresses the two functions by way of identical distribution.
