1. Introduction
Throughout the history of civilization, people have extensively used public speech as a major way to communicate with others, ranging from casual conversation to serious inaugural speeches of presidents, from commencement speech on global famous universities to acceptance speech of Nobel Prize and many other speeches. In modern times, when mutual understanding and operation have become far more important, speech is more widely and frequently practiced in order to inform or persuade each other. With the increasing demand for communication, people in the modern society are tending to give much more speeches. Those who are apt to get their ideas accepted by the public are more likely to succeed in their career and other fields. Speech expresses thoughts, feelings and ideas orally to audience through well-organized and well-prepared sentences and paragraphs with the purposes of evoking listeners’ feelings and recognition. Therefore, to deliver a successful speech, one should use formal and vivid languages as well as many proper figures of speech.
