Abstract
There are various theories used for the analysis of humor understanding. However, the more perspectives we study, the more difficult we will understand humor and the theories. The paper illustrates the advantages of Embodied Philosophy compared with the previous studies on humor understanding, and analyzes some English humor speeches (classified into situational humor and non-situational humor) based on the three principles of Lakoff and Johnson’s Embodied Philosophy: the embodied mind, the cognitive unconsciousness, and metaphorical thought. It aims to offer a relatively more comprehensive and an easier-mastered theory towards humor understanding.
