Conflicts and Fusion – Analysis of Identity of Australian Aborigines and White People in the Film Australia
Abstract
Australia was a 2017 Australian film. Using the name of the nation as its film name, it had rich political and cultural connotations. Australia is a multi-nationalities country. The sophisticated relationship between white immigrants and aborigines which involves both conflicts and fusion has an in-depth impact on the national progress of Australia.
Based on the film Australia, by way of cultural and literature study, this essay interrogates issues of race and identity facing descendants of aboriginal Australians and the white immigrants. After the background information is introduced, the thesis categorizes the typical characters into aborigines and the whites. Then, the aboriginal characters are analyzed. A conclusion is drawn that the aborigines, as the weaker side, suffer the pain of identity loss under the governing of white people. Similar analysis for white characters is done after that. The thesis concludes that the white people, as the stronger side, play a leading role in the relationship with aborigines. This relationship has gone through the following three stages: discrimination and invasion, reconciliation and concession, and cultural fusion. The identity of Australians changes with the stages.

《澳洲乱世情》是一部2017的澳大利亚电影，该片采用国名作为片名，承载了丰富的文化和政治的意义与内涵。澳大利亚是一个多民族的国家，其中澳洲白人与土著居民之间冲突与融合共存的复杂联系深切作用了澳大利亚的国家发展历程。
本文以电影《澳洲乱世情》作为基础，从文化和文学的角度对澳洲白人和土著居民的身份认同情况进行了略论。在影片对背景进行介绍的基础上，文章首先将影片中的代表性人物划分为土著居民和白人两类。接下来对土著居民中的三种人分别进行角色略论，得出处于弱势的土著居民在白人统治下遭受身份缺失的结论。同样，对影片中白人角色结合电影进行略论。文章认为白人作为强势群体，英语毕业论文，在与土著的联系中处于主导地位。这种联系经历了歧视与侵略，和解与退让和文化融合三个阶段。在不同阶段中，澳大利亚人的身份认同情况也不断改变。
