Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Needs for the Study
English is a language full of cultural connotations and humanistic thoughts. These two elements are the most important constituent parts in aesthetic Education. However, the significance of aesthetic education, to a larger extent, is neglected in various types of schools in China, especially the junior high schools. Of all the subjects in junior high schools, English is the one in which aesthetic education is the least effectively implemented, as is justified by the relevant investigations. Most teachers are still employing the traditional teaching approach of starting from the pronunciation of the English words to repeatedly reading the sentences to explaining grammar rules to finally translating the text word by word and sentence by sentence. Although the sort of teaching may, in one way or another, work well on the students’ acquisition of the English language, yet it is no good to cultivate the students’ awareness and ability of tasting and appreciating beauty. Therefore, the very fact is that most students in junior high schools often feel the English classes very boring, even though the teachers are really working hard enough. In the early 1970s and 80s, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization International Development Report of the Committee pointed out that “today’s educators face a fascinating task: to find out how to seek a harmonious balance between rational practice and perceptual release.” (United Nations Educational, 1979) since more emphasis has been put on rational education in China for the students to memorize book knowledge, a great number of beautiful things have gone unnoticed. The result is an undesirable extension of the rational education and an extreme atrophy of the perceptual education, thus the distance between the rational and perceptual may cause the dissociated personality. Aesthetic education is the vital factor to cultivate the sound personality, to develop the all-round development of intelligence, morality, physical body, aesthetics and labor on the part of the students. With the further development of modern education, people’s demand for aesthetic education is increasingly growing. Art, music and labor &,英语论文范文,英语论文范文 |
