As is known to all, vocabulary plays an important role in people’s daily communication. An extensive vocabulary aids expressions and communication. It refers to the set of words within a language that are familiar to that person. A vocabulary usually develops with age, and serves as a useful and fundamental tool for communication and acquiring knowledge. As one of the famous linguists Wilkins (1987) once put it, “Without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed.” Therefore, a large amount of vocabulary is required to the students who want to improve their English. Likewise, how to teach vocabulary effectively is equally crucial question to an English teacher.
