1. Introduction
In today's world, the world multi-polarization and economic globalization has become an unstoppable trend and cultural communication among countries has also become a major point. Countries in the world need various corporations in many aspects, which make the translation become an indispensable activity. So, improving the quality of translation and introducing more foreign ideas have becomes more and more important recently. In view of the differences in Chinese and English, especially the word order between English and Chinese and English long sentences covering a large amount of information and complicated structure, which brings a lot of trouble to Chinese translators, it is beneficial to translate long sentences under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.  By using the functional equivalence theory, the author tries to explore the efficient strategies to make translation maximally convey the thought and content of the original through analysis of long sentences in The Economist.
