Abstract:
During the last few years, a variety of foreign movies and TV shows have been introduced in China and become more and more popular. Because people’s demands for TV products are rising, translation of subtitling is becoming more and more important. This thesis aims to study the application of functional equivalence theory to subtitle translation of Vampire Diaries. This study discusses two aspects. On one hand, this study tells us some principles of translation of subtitling under Nida’s functional equivalence theory. On the other hand, this study discusses subtitle translation from three different levels, cultural level, linguistic level, and stylistic level. Under the functional equivalence theory, translation can achieve the closest natural equivalence between the source text and target language accurately.

在过去的几十年中，大量的外国电影和电视节目进入中国市场并且越来越受欢迎。因为人们对影视产品的需求日益增长，英语论文网站，字幕翻译变得越来越重要。本论文是探索奈达的功能对等理论在美剧吸血鬼日记译文中的具体应用。该论文讨论了两个方面。一方面，英语论文，这篇论文告诉我们在奈达的功能对等理论下一些字幕翻译的准则。另一方面，这篇论文也从文化，语言和文体对等三个层次讨论字幕翻译。在功能对等理论下，翻译能够更准确的在文体和语义之间获得最紧密自然的对等。

1. Literature Review
As we all know, the world is now in a period of globalization and cross-cultural communication has become so indispensable. People have enjoyed tremendous material comfort, whereas the spiritual satisfaction seems relatively devoid. As a result, there is a tendency that people are willing to watch foreign movies and TV shows. Because of these foreign movies and TV shows, they can get information about something that they are interested in. It is well known that every country has its own cultures. It is true that these cultures are different to some extent. However, there are also some connections between cultures although they are different. Because of these connections, cross-cultural communication becomes possible and develops rapidly.
