Abstract:
In recent years, with the advancement of science and technology, communication becomes increasingly convenient, and cultural exchange among nations becomes more and more frequent. As a result of this cultural exchange, a large number of overseas TV products are introduced to China. The quality of existing subtitle translation, however, is far from being precise and appropriate. The TV product has its own characteristics, and subtitle translation also has particularity. This thesis, based on Eugene A. Nida’s theory of functional equivalence principle, discusses the problems of subtitle translation in Gossip Girl, an American TV series, and tries to put forward some translation strategies.

近年来,随着科学技术的进步,沟通日益便捷,国家之间的文化交流也更为频繁。大量国外影视著作涌入中国,催生了字幕翻译行业的兴起,但是字幕翻译质量良莠不齐。而美剧有其自身的特点,字幕翻译也具有特殊性。本文根据字幕翻译的独特性, 以尤金•A•奈达的功能对等准则为理论指导,以美剧《绯闻女孩》为例,尝试讨论美剧字幕翻译中存在的主要问题,英语论文题目,英语论文题目,并试着提出几点字幕翻译的有效策略。

1 Introduction
With the development of globalization, the Chinese TV product market has become more diversified with a large numbers of American TV series online. From the earliest “Friends” to the latest “The Big Bang Theory” , all have a lot of fans. However, the TV series online are in the form of the original language, and it is quite difficult for Chinese audience to enjoy them. In this situation, subtitle translation plays a key role in modern society.
The author of this thesis focuses on finding out the applicability of functional equivalence theory in subtitle translation in Gossip Girl, as well as pointing out relevant translation strategies for Gossip Girl.
The thesis starts with a brief introduction to the characteristics of the subtitles of Gossip Girl, which is followed by the principle of functional equivalence. Based on the former two parts, it summarizes application of functional equivalence in subtitle translation, and offers some strategies for subtitle translation of Gossip Girl under the principle of functional equivalence.
