Abstract
Slogan is not only to awaken the collective action of people but also to help them organize in an orderly manner. In the modern time it is of pith and moment to scratch out enthusiastic, meaningful, unique and appealing slogans for the corporate at home and abroad, as slogan stands for the core value of a company. Therefore, a study on the slogan translation is practically meaningful.
This paper mainly focuses on the E-C translation of English slogans in the foreign-funded enterprises on the basis of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. After analyzing the general idea and linguistic level of slogan as well as Nida’s idea of natural expression, three translation devices have been figured out to help achieve translation both in linguistic and cultural aspects, namely, adaptation, direct translation and free translation.
With Nida’s theory and translation devices, English slogans can be interpreted into Chinese ones more smoothly, attractively and acceptably, as they center on the reader’s response.
