Abstract
This thesis, whose major topic is Study of Ku Hongming’s Translation of Lun Yu from the Perspective of Skopos Theory, discusses the following questions: what Ku Hongming's skopos in his translation of Lun Yu (《论语》) is. And how Ku Hongming's skopos is realized? That is to say, what translation strategies he uses to realize his skopos in the translation of Lun Yu (《论语》). The answers are that: first, the skopos in Ku's translation of Lun Yu (《论语》) is two-folded: in the sense of intention of the translation, his skopos is to correct the mistakes in some Western sinologists' translation; in the sense of the function of the translation, his skopos is to disseminate Chinese culture and to make Western readers gain a better understanding of Chinese culture and Chinese people; second, he mainly adopts the technique of generalization, comparison, rearrangement and composition of verse to make Lun Yu (《论语》) more easily to be understood and to arouse western readers' interests in it to cater for his purpose of dissemination of Chinese culture to the world. Through careful analysis, the following conclusions can be drawn that Ku successfully realizes his ends of translation through his adoption of those translation techniques such as generalization, comparison, rearrangement and composition; analysis of classic translation from the angle of skopos theory can examine more scientifically and accurately whether classic translation is successful, so as to define the criteria of the translation of classics. The significances of this thesis are that it provides for researchers with a new perspective to explain some translator’s different translation strategies in classic translation and it offers some information for and add some data to the study of Chinese classic translation which shed some light to the Chinese classic translation.

摘要
本文以辜鸿铭《论语》英译的目的论探讨为题，英语论文，讨论了辜鸿铭翻译《论语》有什么翻译目的，英语论文，他是怎样在译文中实现他的翻译目的的，也就是为了实现他的翻译目的，他采用是一些什么翻译策略的问题。通过讨论，本文得出了以下这些结论：辜鸿铭的翻译目的分为两个层面，从翻译动机层面来说，他的翻译目的是更正西方汉学家译文中出现的错误；从翻译效果层面来说，他的翻译目的是为了传播中国文化，让西方读者更好地了解中国文化和中国人民。为了更好地传播中国文化；在译文中，辜鸿铭采用了概括、类比、重新安排以及诗歌翻译，使得他的译文更容易理解，且更能激起西方读者的兴趣。由此可见，通过采用概括、类比、重新安排以及诗歌翻译这些特殊的翻译策略，辜鸿铭成功地实现了他的翻译目的。从中也可以看出，从目的论的角度来略论典籍英译的著作可以更科学、更准确地检验典籍英译是否成功，同时这也确定了典籍翻译的标准。本文具有以下几点意义：首先，本文为其他的探讨者提供了一种新的略论理论——从译者主体性的角度，来略论一些译者与众不同的翻译策略。其次，本文为中国的典籍英译提供了一些信息和数据，为中国的典籍英译提供了一些建议，对中国文化的传播做出一点微薄的贡献。
