Abstract
In recent years, domestication and foreignization as two kinds of translation strategies have increasingly been accepted and practiced in Chinese translation field, especially in literary translation. However, which one, domestication or foreignization, should be adopted has long been discussed both in China and abroad. Robinson Crusoe as a world- famous work which reveals European culture and its two Chinese versions will be chosen in this thesis to make a comparative study from the perspective of domestication and foreignization strategies. The thesis intends to explore both the advantages and disadvantages of the two strategies and create the equilibrium between them. The author holds that the two translation strategies are not contradictory but complementary. The appropriate adoption of two strategies is not only able to help readers clearly understand the meaning of the translation but also give them access to foreign culture that the original text loaded. It is the key to produce a remarkable translation work.

1 Introduction
Nowadays, with the development of globalization, the communication between countries has become increasingly frequent. Translation, as one means of communication, has rapidly developed in recent years. It is no longer only a social language phenomenon but also a social exchange activity and language exchange is only one of its factors. The study of translation has extended to the study of society, culture,etc.... Moreover, translation is regarded as a cross-cultural communication and has turned into the behavior of culture. Christian Nord(1991) even used "intercultural communication" to replace the word "translation". André Lefevere( 1992) regarded "translation" as "acculturation" and R.Daniel Shaw(1998) even created the word "transculturation". Chinese translator Liu Miqing(1990) also stated that the translator deals with the individual words but faces the two different cultures. Therefore, the progress in the translation field can stimulate the exchange of different cultures. As the two influential translation strategies, domestication and foreignization are undoubtedly worth studying.
