Abstract
With frequent exchanges among different countries, translation has become more and more popular so that there is a huge demand on translators and interpreters in all walks of life. In the perspective of relevance, translation is an ostensive-inferential communication across language and culture. Meanwhile, the difference of culture and language feature could not be neglected, for they have a block on translation and communication to some extent.
This thesis puts an emphasis on analyzing two factors of relevance, the core concept in relevance theory—contextual effects and processing efforts; making further research on how to reach optimal relevance, so as to obtain better translation and communication to deepen the exchanges among different countries.

1. Introduction
With a growing popularity of information exchange in international communication, the quality of translation can not be more important any more. In academic circles, there is a new theory—relevance theory, which is regarded as a guide to successful communication in translation.
Relevance is one of the most important notions in relevance theory. If the assumptions of the reader or the hearer have effects on communication, there exists relevance (Sperber and Wilson, 1986). The stronger relevance is, the more successful the information exchange is. Now that there is strongness and weakness of relevance, there must be some factors which will influence it. The degree of relevance could determine the success or failure of communication and translation. Therefore, not only with the interest of the writer, but also with the significance of relevance in communication and translation, the writer is going to do research on this field.
