Translation Techniques of Chinese Neologisms and Words with Chinese Characteristics

Abstract
This thesis intends to analyze translation techniques of Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics appeared in Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping Ⅲ. Because Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping Ⅲ contains 191 essays published during the earlier ten years of reform and opening-up from 1982 to 1992, various Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics exist in the book. Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics are likely to be misunderstood due to the lexical gap caused by culture differences, and misunderstanding of source texts and they have been concerns of scholars, who have examined mistranslation causes, translation techniques under different theories. However, few studies were done on translation techniques of Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics in Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping Ⅲ, and most of them were from political translation perspective. Therefore, this thesis exams the translation techniques used in translating Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics in Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping Ⅲ in order to give a little advice to relative studies.
Based on Dictionary of Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping, this thesis gathered 265 Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics and used Excel to selected 30 examples to analyze randomly. Through the analysis of translation techniques of Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics used in Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping Ⅲ, it should be pointed out that literal translation and free translation are most frequently used translation techniques, assisted by corresponding translation, addition and omission. Through the study of Chinese neologisms and words with Chinese characteristics, this thesis tries to offer advices to relevant studies.
