Abstract

Pride and Prejudice is considered as Jane’s most famous and successful novel and it is also one of the greatest fictions written in English. It is a great work not only because of its wonderful plots but also because it helps readers to re-think what true love is. It mainly describes two love stories: Jane and Bingley, Elizabeth and Darcy. The changing of Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s pride and prejudice and emotion is the principal line. Jane Austen makes a subtle arrangement around Nether field ball. Elizabeth has her own certain acquaintance and expectation about the four main characters including herself, but also get all the readers involved, sharing Elizabeth’s acquaintance and expectation. However, all sorts of the twists and turns in the plot after Nether field ball break down those expectations. This paper studies it to find out the significance of the structure to the characterization and the unfolding of the theme of the novel.

1  Introduction
Jane Austen (1775-1817) was a famous English female novelist in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. She lived her entire life as part of a happy family located on the lower fringes of the English landed gentry. She was educated primarily by her father and older brother as well as through her own reading. The steadfast support of her family was critical to her development as a professional writer. Her artistic apprenticeship lasted from her teenage years into her thirties. During this period, she experimented with various literary forms, including the epistolary novels which she then abandoned, and wrote and extensively revised three major novels and began a fourth. From 1811 to 1816, with the release of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816), she achieved success as a published writer.
