摘要
弗兰纳里·奥康纳(1925-1964)是20世纪美国最伟大的南方作家之一。她的写作风格怪诞，著作极具有哥特式风格，集暴力、宗教、恐怖等元素为一体。长篇小说《智血》(1952)完美地体现了奥康纳独特的写作风格。本文主要略论了《智血》中主人公黑兹尔的心路历程，英语毕业论文，即黑兹尔追寻其宗教信仰和探究精神世界的过程。本文将黑兹尔的心路历程分为三个部分：黑兹尔信仰的丢失；黑兹尔对教会的反抗和对新教会的追寻；黑兹尔的自我灭亡。第一部分主要阐述黑兹尔原本的宗教信仰，并略论了黑兹尔如何一步步丢失自己的信仰。第二部分是黑兹尔追寻信仰的高潮部分。这一部分详细叙述了黑兹尔反抗教会的方式，以及其在追寻新教会的过程中所产生的心理变化。第三部分着重略论了黑兹尔自我救赎后所产生的心理及其最终走向死亡的原因。本文通过对黑兹尔的宗教信仰和精神世界的略论，强调了黑兹尔与他所处社会形成的反差和对比，以此来揭示精神自我关于个人和社会的重要性。

Abstract
Flannery O’ Connor (1925-1964) is one of the greatest American Southern writers in the 20th century. Combined with violence, religion and horror, O’ Connor’s work is full of gothic and absurd elements which are exactly the distinctive features of her writing style. The novel, Wise Blood (1952), is the best manifestation of O’ Connor’s style. This paper primarily analyzes the mental journey that Hazel pursues his religious belief and explores his spiritual world. It divides Hazel’s mental journey into three parts: chaos and loss; revolt and pursuit; redemption and self-destruction. The first part mainly describes Hazel’s initial belief and analyzes how Hazel loses his religious belief step by step. The second part, the climax of Hazel’s religious pursuit, elaborately depicts the way that Hazel chooses to fight against the church and the psychological change that takes place on his way of pursuit. And the final part emphasizes on the psychological effects produced by the redemption and the analysis of Hazel’s death. By analyzing Hazel’s religious belief and spiritual world, this paper intends to highlight the contrast and comparison between Hazel and the society to reveal the importance of spiritual ego.

Flannery O’ Connor, famous for her unique and absurd writing style, is a world-renowned American southern writer. Because of O’ Connor’s religious viewpoint, her works are poured into religious color densely. Her first novel Wise Blood is a typical representation of it. Besides religion, horror, darkness and violence decorate this novel as well.
