His stories are famous for their profound themes, rich content and concise writing style. “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” is one of his best short stories, which describes the protagonist Harry’s decline as a writer, his slide into failure, and his tragic death on the African Plains.
This paper aims to analyze the protagonist Harry’s tragedy in the story, his failure as a writer and a lover as well as his tragic ends. In addition, the paper will discuss the similarities between the author Hemingway and his character Harry and explores Hemingway’s purpose in creating such a character. The story carries the author’s concern and warning for the American writers. Writers’ integrity is like women’s virginity, once lost, will never be restored.
