ABSTRACT
Ernest Hemingway created a perfect image in the Old Man and the Sea, Santiago, who is full of the faith of bravery, perseverance and resolution. The paper analyzed the faith of the hero and whose spirit on the basis of the research of the novel of The Old Man and the Sea which including the old man’s several fights with his rivals, and, analyze the significance to the teenagers who are lost the belief of their owns in their heart gradually living in the glamorous modern society nowadays. The analysis of the faith of the old man may be helpful for readers to have a better understanding of the novel.

Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Introduction to the Author, Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway was born in 1899 and was raised in Oak Park of Illinois. He has reported for several months for The Kansas City Star after high school before leaving for the Italian front and to enlist with the ambulance drivers in the World War I . However, in 1918, he was seriously wounded and finally he returned home. And his wartime experiences has formed the basis in some degree for one of his famous novel, A Farewell to Arms (1929). In 1921, Hemingway married Hadley Richardson, who was the first of his four wives. This couple moved to Paris, in which he worked as a foreign correspondent who fell under the influence of the writers and artists of the modernism of the “Lost Generation” expatriate community in 1920s. |
