Abstract
The poems by the famous Argentina writer Borges are full of abundant images, and these images reveal Borges’ deep inner world，endowing the poems with rich meanings. Traditional as it is in western literature, mirror bears profound symbolic and cultural meanings. According to researchers from home and abroad, Borges regards the mirror as a way of repeating reality and the way to express his fear and awe to the reality. Therefore, this thesis attempts to focus on the analysis of Borges’ mirror images, exploring their origin, characteristics, and effects in the interpretation of poetic meanings and significance, and hence, the inner world of Borges.
This thesis falls into four parts. The first part introduces Borges’ lifetime and poems. It summarizes the employment of mirror images in Borges’ poems, as well as their personal and social origins, and also points out the important position of these images in western literature. The second part analyzes three characteristics of mirror images in Borges’ poems, including verisimilitude, unlimitedness and awesome effects. Firstly, verisimilitude means that there’s no difference between the image in a mirror and the scene in reality. Secondly, unlimitedness is reflected in the fact that the images in mirrors are unlimited by duplication. Thirdly, awesome effects are embodied in the feeling of being examined and copied by mirrors. The third part illustrates the relationship between mirror images and Borges’ labyrinth complex, so as to explain multi-level meanings of his poems. The final part concludes the effects of mirror images in revealing Borges’ inner world.

摘 要
阿根廷著名作家博尔赫斯的诗歌充满了大量的意象，这些意象揭示了博尔赫斯深刻的内心世界，赋予诗歌丰富的意义。作为西方文学不可忽视的传统意象，镜子承载着深刻的象征意义和文化意义。国内外探讨者们认为博尔赫斯将镜子视作重复现实和抒发对现实恐惧且敬畏的心理的手段。因此，本文尝试从镜子这一意象出发，探索博尔赫斯镜子意象的根源和特点以及其对诗歌意义的阐发、对诗歌主旨的揭示影响，最终发掘出隐藏在镜子之后的诗人内心世界。
本文分为四部分：第一部分简要介绍博尔赫斯生平和诗作，概述诗歌中大量出现的镜子意象与意象产生的个人和社会根源，及其在西方文学中的重要地位，并略论该意象产生的个人和社会根源；第二部分，英语毕业论文，略论镜子意象的特点，即具有逼真性、无限性和敬惧性；首先，逼真性意味着镜中的映像与镜外的景象毫无区别；其次，无限性体现在镜子里的映像通过复制达到无限；第三，敬惧性体现在被镜子审视和复制的感觉之中；第三部分，略论镜子意象与诗人迷宫情结的联系，将两者相结合继而阐释诗歌的多层意义；第四部分，总结镜子意象在揭示诗歌主题和反映诗人精神世界过程中的影响。
