摘要
象征作为一种表现手法，英语论文，在文学上有着伟大的传统。它同样在海明威的《永别了，英语毕业论文，武器》中起着重要影响。本文主要集中注意力于海明威的象征应用。本文主要包含五个部分：
第一部分简要介绍了作家，并阐述了本探讨的主要目的。
第二部分简要介绍了象征的含义及象征的影响。
第三部分简要介绍了《永别了，武器》的背景，概要，具体情节等。
第四部分是对海明威的象征应用进行了一个较为详尽的略论。主要介绍了以“雨”、主人公“凯瑟琳”、”高山“、和“平原”的象征。作者认为海明威的象征应用并不是偶然性的应用，而是经过精心考虑过的、有意图的和有系统性的应用。
第五部分则是文章的结论部分。本文作者通过详细略论得出如下结论：海明威大量的象征应用，关于小说主题的丰富具有很大的贡献。它使得小说的容量和内容得以增大；它同时非常大地作用了海明威小说中的人物塑造；并且它也提供给我们一个更好地了解作者的途径。
毫无疑问，小说变得如此的受欢迎和它的作用力之大这些事实是和海明威丰富的象征应用紧密关系在一起的。

Abstract
As a literary technique, symbolism in literature has a great tradition, and it plays an important role in Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. The thesis mainly focuses on Hemingway’s use of symbolism. There are five parts in this thesis:
Part One is a brief introduction to the author, and the purposes of this study.
Part Two is a brief introduction to the interpretation and of symbol and the symbol’s function.
Part Three is a brief introduction to the background, the general summary, the specific plot and the theme of the novel.
Part Four is a detailed analysis of Hemingway’s use of symbolism. This part is mainly described the symbols of “rain”, “Catherine”, “mountain” and “plain”. The writer of this thesis believes that Hemingway’s use of symbolism is not accidental, but deliberate, intentional, and organic.
Part Five is the conclusion of the thesis. Through the thorough analyses, the writer holds that Hemingway’s profuse use of symbolism makes a great contribution to the richness of the themes of fiction; it makes the capacities and the contents of the novel become rich; it also greatly influences Hemingway’s characterization; and it provides us with a way to a better understanding of the author.
Doubtless the fact that the novel becomes so popular and influential has a close connection with his abundant use of symbolism.
