Abstract and Key Words
Abstract: Heathcliff, the unforgettable protagonist, undoubtedly adds great charm to Wuthering Heights, the only novel of the British female writer, Emily Bronte. The author of this thesis attempts to decipher Heathcliff’s unique psychological development from revenge to recovery of human nature, then to reconciliation and the reasons behind each of these changes. To the author of this thesis, the distorted human nature Heathcliff exhibits is the result of the abnormal society, and the reversion of his nature, the spiritual sublimation.

摘要:希斯克利夫这一令人难忘的主角无疑给英国女作家,艾米丽•勃朗特唯一小说《呼啸山庄》增加了巨大的魅力。本文作者试图解读希斯克利夫从复仇到人性的回归,然后到和解的独特的心理历程的发展,英语论文题目,以及每一个变化后的原因。对本文的作者来说,希斯克利夫所展示的人性的扭曲是这个变态社会的缩影,而其人性的回归是其精神上的升华的结果。

1. General Introduction
1.1 Introduction to Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights is a story of love and revenge. One day, Mr. Earnshaw, master of Wuthering Heights, brought back an unidentified child, who was called Heathcliff. After Master's death, Earnshaw’s son Hindley demoted in retaliation for the Heathcliff as a servant, but Catherine liked him. Later, Catherine fell in love with young Edgar in the Thrush Mountain. Heathcliff left in an anger, after three years, he returned home with prosperity, but at that time, Catherine had married Edgar. Heathcliff's revenge got crazy in the end, by gambling away the Hindley's family wealth. Hindley died because of the heavy drink, his son Hareton became a servant. At last, Heathcliff married Edgar's sister Isabella. Ten years later, Heathcliff had facilities of dollars to Edgar's daughter Catherine, married to his dying son, Linton. After Edgar’s death, Heathcliff eventually took the property of Edgar’s family. His revenge succeed, but heathcliff can not recover from Catherine's love of the free and eventually died of drink or unrequited love. Catherine and Hareton inherited Grange Mountain’s industry, they two eventually fell in love, and treated Thrush Mountain as their home. The novel reflected real life that showed a strong romantic color.
