Abstract

The thesis aims to analyze the comic elements in Pygmalion. In Pygmalion, there are abundant comic elements in the novel, as the plots develop, every element comes into play, readers can receive the topic that the author wants to tell. George Bernard Shaw employs the writing method which mingles laughters and tears together to achieve a particular artistic effect.
The thesis consists of three parts. First part is the introduction to this research which is about the background information of Pygmalion. Part two is a major part, to begin with, there is an introduction and analysis of comic elements, then it turns to the discussion of these elements one after another in detail, including comic plot, comic characters and comic writing techniques in Pygmalion. The final part of the thesis is the conclusion.

摘 要

这篇论文的目的是略论《卖花女》里的喜剧元素。在《卖花女》里,有很多的喜剧元素英语论文,随着情节的发展,元素一个个展开,读者感受到笑点的同时也可以感受到文章的主旨。萧伯纳采用了笑泪交融的手法达到了特别的艺术效果。
本文包含三个部分,第一部分是介绍卖花女的背景信息;第二部分是主要部分,首先总体介绍各种喜剧元素,英语论文范文,然后是一个一个展开略论,包括《卖花女》里的喜剧情节,喜剧人物和喜剧的写作手法;最后一部分是总结。

1    Introduction

British dramatist and literature critic George Bernard Shaw is a giant in the English literary arena 20th century. He writes more than fifty dramas in his lifetime, including many scriptures such as Widowers’ Houses, Mrs Warren’s Profession, Saint Joan and other famous works.
Pygmalion is published in 1912, it is familiar by the world because of 1956 musical My Fair Lady and 1964 film of that name. Pygmalion is adapted from Ovid’s mythology Pygmalion. In the story, Pygmalion is the king of Cyprus, he is also a sculptor. He rebels at mundane woman and makes up his mind not marry lifelong. Once he sculptures a girl statue, the ivory statue is so glorious that he cannot help falling in love with his production. The king impetrate the goddess of love Aphrodite to give life to the sculpture, Aphrodite is moved by his deep love and promise him, therefore Pygmalion marry the girl.
