  In language learning, learners mainly develop four skills including listening, speaking, reading,writing, of which listening and reading are input, the other two are output. Only enough input can makefoundation for the output. However, in China, English learners in senior high school only can hear Englishin English class, after the class, they use mother language to communicate with others. Reading becomesthe main source of for input. So developing the ability of reading skills and accessing information becomethe focus of teachingIn current English teaching, among the four fundamental skills in foreign language learning, readingis an essential cognitive activity. And it is an important way to gain knowledge; a method to come to knowthe around world. By learning English, learners can lay foundation for other subjects (Yao Ximing, Pan Pan,2017). In the course of English teaching, reading is difficult to master by most of foreign language learners.Therefore, reading comprehension also becomes one of many senior high school students’ tough problems.From the requirement, we infer that reading comprehension holds a key position in senior high schoolEnglish teaching.Reading comprehension is important in language learning because it provides valid language inputfor the readers. Without enough language input there will be some trouble in language output such asspeaking, writing and translating. Therefore, the ability of reading comprehension contributes much toEnglish level.In the senior high school English class, some students may feel that 45 minutes’ class is like anodyssey which is hard to go through. When the teacher says the class is over, they are happy to leave theclassroom. The quantity of language what they have obtained through the English class is limited. Whenthe final exam approaches, they begin to memorize the words in the textbook and exercise book. They maynot understand the passage that the teacher has analyzed in the class. And even worse, some students mayneglect the teachers’ instruction in English and gradually give up.Therefore, the teaching of English reading is more difficult in senior high school comparatively. Theresults of reading teaching in senior high school are not satisfactory,  which urges us to reevaluate theEnglish reading models and probe into better ways of teaching.One of the most influential theories in language communication is relevance theory proposed bySperber and Wilson (1995). As a communicative theory of cognitive pragmatics, relevance theory isdedicated to the studies of the ostensive-inferential communication and oriented to establish a generalprinciple of interpreting the inner mechanism of human communication. Sperber and Wilson assume thathuman cognition is geared towards a technical notion of relevance, and that human communication createsexpectation of relevance. The outstanding achievement in relevance theory is that Sperber and Wilsonassume two ideas. One is that the process of utterance interpretation should be regarded ascontextualization of an utterance, in which old context is constantly revised, supplemented and improvedand thus constitutes the foundation of the next-step communication and inference.
