  Entitled A Study of Teaching Reading Based on Schema Theory in Senior High Schools, this papersearches for a method of containing schema theory in terms of teaching reading.In the process of English learning, reading is one of the four important skills (listening, speaking,reading and writing), so more and more English teachers and researchers have paid attention to Englishreading. Reading does not just mean pronouncing and translating words or passages, but is a positive andinteractive conversation between the reader and the writer. In the field of linguist, the editions of describingreading models are increasing gradually. Some western researchers proposed that schema theory should beapplied to the classroom. However, in China, seldom books guided how to apply schema theory to theprocess of teaching reading, especially in senior high school.Under the educational circumstance of the present time, there exist insoluble contradictions betweenthe instructors, the students, the teaching materials and the teaching methods. Now most instructors stilladopt the traditional method in the process of teaching English (that is, grammar is put on much emphasis.),while the learner’s background information about the topic is not paid much attention, not to mention toreconstruct information hierarchy after reading the new passage.Due to the limited class time, improving the ability to English reading is still a problem during theclassroom teaching and students’ learning. This problem needs solving urgently. Added to theimplementation of new curriculum, the best way is to encourage teachers’ to adopt effective method andimprove the classroom efficiency. So the key point is to apply the effective reading methods to improve thestudents’ comprehensive abilities. For this, teaching reading is the core of this paper.As the main way to importing the second language, learners in senior high school can build upmany useful words, know well old and new sentence patterns, improve the writing technique and receivebroad knowledge by reading. If the teachers apply a better reading theory to guide the students’ reading inthe reading class, the students will benefit much more.。 Up to senior high school, although many English learners have been in touch with it for at least 6 or7 years, they still can’t comprehend fully the passage and the writer’s purpose or indication. The reasonwhy the old learner is less competent is that there is no the related background knowledge about the certaintopic. Besides that, students’ low English proficiency is related to the less time they spend on reading. Moststudents’ English learning accumulation stays mainly reading materials presented in the passages of theteaching material and reading comprehension of exam papers. Seldom students look through willinglyother relevant English material. Just small reading quantity causes low reading speed. Students hardly graspthe main idea of passages because of lack of reading skills. So the qualified teacher should make efforts tobroaden and activate the learners’ schema before their reading in reading class in order to guide them tofinish passages skillfully, and encourage students to do more extensive,英语论文范文英语论文
