Chapter One Introduction
With national economy undergoing internationalization and modem technology shared within the global village,without any doubt,English has played a more and more vital role in collecting worldwide information,obtaining scientific,technical and cultural knowledge and carrying out international exchange and cooperation,In China,English has been a compulsory subject in every middle school and every university.
Reading plays an important part in foreign language learning and communication.It does not only offer important and sufficient linguistic input for foreign language learners,but also lays a solid foundation for the learners’further ability in speaking,listening and writing.Without reading,there would be no improvement in foreign language learning.Moreover,in this age of knowledge explosion,英语论文范文,reading is considered to be the most efficient means to obtain the latest information on science,technology,英语论文题目,academic research and so on.Ever since Chinese students started to learn English,reading has always been the most important and difficult part.In many important annually-held countrywide examinations,such as College Entrance Examination,CET Band 4 and Band 6, Masters’and Doctors’Entrance Examination and Public English Testing System (PETS),reading comprehension takes up 40-50%of the total score.Although English teachers intentionally emphasize on improving students’reading ability, and stress the importance of English reading,a lot of college students’reading ability is still very depressing.In traditional English reading classes,due to the singular teaching mode and the boring atmosphere,teachers cannot inspire students’curiosity and consciousness towards reading.The whole teaching activity is in vain to improve their reading ability.
In the late 1990s,the theory of learning-plan guidance originated from the curriculum reform of Chinese middle school,and soon it was widely implemented in primary school and high school teaching,which makes the author find hope in changing currently low-efficient and invalid reading teaching.The theory of learning-plan guidance refers to the teaching model that emphasizes the autonomous learning of students with the learning plan being the carrier of the teaching activity and the teacher being the conductor of guidance and requires the cooperation of the teacher and students to complete the task of teaching.This theory has changed the traditional teacher-dominated teaching model,and return the time to students in order to foster their innovative and practical abilities and ultimately to achieve the reading teaching objectives.In this thesis,the author will state the essence of reading,illustrate the learning-plan-oriented teaching applications in English reading class and finally points out the implication of learning-plan guidance theory in the teaching of College English reading.
