English teaching between college and senior high school should be an organicintegration, which is one process and two different sections. But for a long time, each ofthem follows their own policy, never knowing each other. English, as the international language, plays an important role in the world. ForChinese. English is the major resource of the international information outside China. Inparticular, with China's entry to the WTO. more and more people study the English. Inrecent years, the scale of English teaching in our country has been expanding. Englishteaching has made great achievements, but there are still many problems in our Englisheducation,one of which is that the transition of English teaching grammar from seniorhigh school to college is not very appropriate. This research finds some problemsexisted and shows many reasons for the problems in the transition of English grammarteaching from high school to college. For instance, the purpose of the grammar teachingin senior high school is to help students lay a solid foundation, and that of collegegrammar teaching aims to help students use it in English. So there are different purposesin English teaching. With smooth and effective transition in English grammar teachingfroni senior high school to college, it would be easier for college students to becomeaccustomed to college English study and to improve their English more quickly.The purpose of investigating of current situation on English teaching betweencollege and senior high school is to come to know the reasons why both of them causethe disjunction. At the same time, the author also puts forward some useful strategies on effectively and smoothly transiting in order to improve college students' grammarcompetence. Last but not least,grammar should be valued highly by more teachers,educators and related departments.
