Chapter one Introduction
1.1 The Scope of The Study
This part gives a brief introduction of multiple attributives and its range to selectin this study. The study object of this paper should be those multiple attributives in nominalconstruction which compose of more than one modifiers and head word. To do awell-analysis about the ordering of multiple attributives in nominal construction, multiple attributives can be further divided into three types according to its differentdistribution of attributive words, namely, multiple pre-attributives, multiplepost-attributives, and multiple mix-attributives. As below, those are explicitintroduction about them.Multiple pre-attributives mean that all attributive words lay before the head word. This type of multiple-attributives is usually made up of constructions of differentgrammatical features and functions. They modify the head words from differentperspectives, and do not share equal status. That is to say, different pre-modifiersreflect primary and secondary properties of head word. Multiple pre-attributives, withpunctuations or connections between them, are also beyond discussion. The followingsare typical ones:1a) the two-and-thirty sound white teeth1b) an unsteady, recirculating flow fieldMultiple post-attributives mean that all attributive word laid after head word. Thistype of multiple attributives consists of relative clauses, particles, and prepositionalstructure. Most of them are descriptive in nature. Strictly speaking, nothing should beplaced before the head word in this kind of nominal construction. However, a nominalconstruction only composed of a determiner and multiple post-attributives also shouldbe discussed in this paper.

1.2 The Necessity of This Study
The study of the ordering of multiple attributives has been a difficult task for a lotof language learners, especially EFL learners. Two types of mistakes are usually madein their language learning: the first one is the employment of the ordering of multipleattributives in First language, and it easily appears in EFL learning process; the secondone is the mechanical application of English grammatical rules about the ordering ofmultiple attributives, and it is easy to cause some improper uses about the ordering ofmultiple attributives in translation, or EFL writing. This problem has aroused wide interests among linguists and experts of relatedfields. Many linguists have studied it on the grammatical or semantic level. Theyexplain the ordering of multiple attributives by syntactic rules and semantic rules. However, all these are based on sentential level. Many pedagogic experts pay attentionto summarize the workable rules of the ordering of multiple attributives in EFLinstruction. And many translators endeavor to give a contrastive study to show thesimilarities and differences on the ordering of multiple attributives betweentarget-language nominal constructions and source-language nominal constructions.Few could give a specific and systematic study on explanations of working principlesin the ordering of multiple attributives of English sentence.
