Chapter One Literature Review

1.1  The  Studies  of  English  Grammar  Teaching  in  Senior High School 
language  input,  their  accuracy  on  some  grammatical  forms  cannot  reach an  ideal  level.  In  Swain  &  Lapkin’s  research,  grammar  was  not  taught explicitly.  The  teaching  method  here  was  implicit  grammar  teaching. Carroll  (1967)  investigated  2784  seniors  who  were  learning  French, German, Russian, or Spanish (郝兴跃,英语论文范文,2017). These participants learned the  target  language  in  unnatural  condition.  At  last,  their  level  of  target language  is  low.  At  the  same  time,  the  learners  who  have  learned  the target  language  in  natural  condition  achieved  higher  than  those  who haven’t.  Celce-Murcia  (1991)  tried  to  find  out  some  meaningful  results about the implicit approach. Celce-Murcia warned that because of a lack of  teaching  about  language  form,  learning  tended  to  be  fossilized  or plateaued  easily.  When  learners  achieve  a  specific  level,  it  is  hard  for them to make any further progress. In contrast, the systematic teaching, as a characteristic of the explicit approach, made learners organize what they wanted  to  express  accurately,  which  led  to  a  smooth  conversation.  In general,  there  are  two  trends  of  grammar  teaching,  the  explicit  teaching and  the  implicit  teaching.  The  former  one  emphasizes  on  the  form  of language,  ignoring  the  meaning  of  language  and  the  weaknesses  of  its usage; while the latter highlights the meaning and the context but neglects accuracy.  All  in  all,  on  one  hand,  each  new  teaching  model  is  formed based on the former models’ strong points; on the other, each has its own deficiency to some extent.

1.2 The Study of English Teaching in Senior High School Based on the Image Schema Theory 
In  CNKI  database,  the  present  author  searched  with  the  key  words “the application of the Image Schema Theory to instruction” as the topic and  got  121  records.  The  result  shows  that  researches  done  in  China  on the application of the Image Schema  Theory to instruction increase after 2017;  the  largest  number  is  in  2017  and  2017,  19  and  17  respectively. These  researches  do  not  only  concern  the  field  of  SLA,  but  include  the analysis of the image schemas found in our country’s ancie,英语论文
