English Pronunciation and The Soluting Strategies


1. Introduction
To master a language, we must learn it well on the basis of pronunciation, for the pronunciation is the basic form of a language. /英语论文Different nationality, however, has different system of speech sound. When learning a new language such as English, people tend to be influenced by their mother tongue or dialect unconsciously.
To a certain degree, whatever the speech sound of a language people speaks, it is a custom of pronunciation to express one’s feeling. (苏伊婷、罗颖玲,2017:5)Chinese or dialect, which is used for a long term, has been formed as a set of habit deeply-rooted. It is inevitable that Chinese or dialect has an influence on Chinese students when learning English, for they are used to speaking dialect, no wonder that they learn English unavoidably mixing with dialect. So do those people who speak Chinese mixed with an accent of dialect. In addition, Guizhou is no exception. This paper aims at analyzing simply the trouble of Guizhou students’ English pronunciation and suggesting some effective solutions.

2.1Questionnaires about Teachers
    With the problem existing, I interviewed two teachers in my school of foreign languages.
1].How do you think of the influence of dialect on students’ English pronunciation in our School of Foreign Languages?
     From my point of view, the right or wrong pronunciation has an influence on whether both sides can understand or not. Thus the pronunciation with dialect also affects the communication between one another, which hinders the students in English study, for the first step of learning English well is to have a good command of speech sound. This phenomenon that many students speak English with dialect in Guizhou is a common occurrence. The students in our School of Foreign Languages can’t be exempted, either. Take the phoneme [i] or [i:] for example, they tend to change it into pinyin “I”, because the [i] or [i:] is similar to the Chinese phonetic transcriptions “I”.  Typically, most people who speak with other dialects in Guizhou can not pronounce [n] and [l] precisely, for they often take [l] as [n], which makes others can not follow especially the foreigners. Besides, it is also the reason of the change of stress and intonation when speak a word or sentence.
    As far as I am concerned, the students in Guizhou can not distinguish the long vowel /i//when they pronounce the words that include them. The striking feature is that they tend to pronounce nasal /n/in lateral /l/ for the most of their dialects are not spoken in cacuminal. When pronouncing linguo-dental sound / / and / /, it is unfamiliar for them to pronounce / / and / / because their tongues should touch teeth and they used to pronouncing alveolar /s/ which is similar to some Guizhou dialects. To a great extent, dialects, as mother tongue of Guizhou students, deeply influence their pronunciation when speaking English.
