Chapter 1 Introduction


1.1 Research background
"All is for the development of every student” is the core concept of the newcurriculum reform. One of the goals of the curriculum reform is to change the emphasison the tendency of teachers' lecturing into emphasis on forming an autonomous learningattitude. Previous Education emphasized receptive learning,rote learning andmechanical training. In the new period, however, education advocates the activeparticipation of students, being ready to explore, diligent to get to work and thecultivation of students' information collecting and processing abilities, the ability toacquire new knowledge, the ability to analyze and solve problem, as well ascommunication and cooperation ability, “Learning determines teaching". In this context,learners are not passive bystanders, but independent participants. Learning is not simplyto copy and print information, but to interpret information actively and construct themeaning of knowledge. At Grade Eight, students should master 3300 words and 400-500idioms or fixed collocation. At Grade Nine,students should master 4500 words and acertain number of idioms or fixed collocation. Besides, the spelling, pronunciation,antonyms, synonyms, collocation and cultural information of words are also animportant part of vocabulary. This requirement makes students face huge pressure.Various tutorial classes and shorthand training classes emerges. It is only a waste ofenergy if students practice exams tactics blindly.

1.2 Research significance
After many years of teaching practice, the author finds it a very good self-studymethod to train students to review the language points after class and use notes to sumup knowledge. The burden of students can be reduced, too. Learning efficiency can beimproved. Traditionally, people regard notes as the contents of the class given by theteacher ⑷.Therefore, students rarely take notes in the exercises after class. In fact, nomatter how limited a period is, only through the exercises after class and review willstudents really absorb and master knowledge I)]. But many students still don'tunderstand or don't know how to do exercise. Some other students make sense of somepoints temporarily through practice. But due to the limitation of memory, they soonforget the language points and have to understand and memorize them again. By and by,the learning efficiency of students will decrease. Time will be wasted and theconfidence of students to leam English well will be seriously blownTaking notes actively will be a good solution to this problem.
