1.1 Vocational college English Education in China

The world is changing rapidly, in which globalization and global communicationplays an important role in twenty-first century. As to China, when it takes part intoWTO, International trade and travel have been growing. Every country hasresponsibility to help its citizens to learn necessary skills for surviving in the fiercecompetitive society. Vocational education reflects the pressing need because of therapid growth and the specialty tendency in enrollment of vocational education in recentyears. Because of the demand of the workplace or the development of the society, it iseasier for workers to lose their jobs. Up-to-date skills, approaches and knowledge willbe needed owing to cross-national distribution of manufacturing and production andthe international division of labor. It has been felt that the normal academic-orientededucation system would not be enough or not totally adequate to meet the growingdemands of the diversified economy and society. Because of a large population，thecompetition in labor market is fierce. It is also true for China that it is a right phase ofindustrial，scientific and commercial expansion and especially making its way into theglobal marketplace. With the demand for skillful and capable labor force, it brings thevocational education great opportunities and great challenges making changes. It is thetime for vocational education to help students for the coming employment. They needto learn some specific field on practical skills，since the vocational education plays a significant role on the development of social economy.
But in reality, we can see that as the vocational education further developing inChina, the enrollment scale is constantly expanding too. And this leads to the unevenstudent quality, especial the students' English quality. Most of the students invocational college are poor in English. Some students' learning motivation isinadequacy, some lack of interest and confidence, and some even give up on learning.And this brings English education a lot of hard pressures. Therefore, it is definitelynecessary to help our students to build up confidence of English learning and toimprove English learning and delves the methods on English learning.
Meanwhile, many higher vocational educations only focus on the traditionalteaching methods and pay less attention to the combination of students' need andstudents' communicational skills. The students in higher vocational colleges generallyare poor in English; they can not be confident in English learning and gradually losttheir interest in learning English.
