Discussion on culture learning in Business English teaching importance Abstract:As a language for specific purpose,Business English is highly valued in English teaching in collegesand universities.This paper states the importance of culture learning in Business English teaching and offers someways to culture learning into Business English classrooms. Key words:Business English culture learning comparing and contrasting 1.Introduction This paper is written to explain the importanceof culture learning in Business English and toincrease the awareness of culture differences inBusiness English classroom in order to have asuccessful outcome in business communication.The awareness of one's own culture in relation tothose of others has become a growing issue noted inthe field of Business English in usinesscommunication because it is the factor thatdetermines the success of using Business English.Culture learning can be realized through comparingand contrasting different cultures,analysing thebusiness context,learning the language,andintroducing culture knowledge by the test ofbackground knowledge and communicative ability. 2.Business English And CultureLearning Business English must be seen in the overallcontext of English for Specific Purpose(ESP)which implies the definition of a specific languagecorpus and emphasis on particular kinds ofcommunication in a specific context[1],[3].BusinessEnglish is a mix of specific content(relative to aparticular job area or industry)and general content(relating to general ability to communicate moreeffectively,albeit in business Article ID:1009-315X(2017)situations).Some aspects are emphasized much more,such asthe skills of communication in English speaking,writing,listening and reading within a businesscontext,and so on. Sense of purpose is the most importantcharacteristic of Business English[1].There is asense of purpose in the exchanges in the context ofmeetings,telephone calls,and discussions. Social aspects should also be taken intoconsideration in Business English[1].Internationalbusiness people have a need to make contact withthose whom they have never met before,or knownonly slightly.There is a need for an internationallyaccepted ways of doing things so that people fromdifferent cultures,and with different mothertongues,can quickly feel more comfortable withone another.The style and content of socialinteractions will be typified by a desire to build agood relationship.That accepted way of doingthings or rule is constructed by culture.
