一、 add的基本意义
add的基本意义分三层：1.（数字的）相加； 2. 添加，增加； 3. 补充。语法功能上来说，add可以用作及物动词，也可用作不及物动词。
1. （数字的）相加（后面常跟副词up， together）
例如：If we add these marks up， we’ll get a total of 90. 如果我们把这些分数加起来，总数就有九十分了。（及物动词）
The little girl has begun to learn to add and subtract. 这个小女孩已开始学做加减法了。（不及物动词，表示“做加法”）
2. 添加，增加

They also raise fish and poultry， thus adding to the total income. 他们还养鱼，饲养家禽，增加了总收入。（不及物动物，后面加to再接宾语）
3. 补充
例如：“I felt sorry for her，” Bob added. “我为她感到惋惜。”鲍勃补充道。
二、 add的常用搭配
1. add to 增加，添加
例如：The engine of the ship was out of order and the bad weather added to the helplessness of the crew at sea. 船的发动机坏了，恶劣的天气更增加了船员的无助。
2. add A to B 将A与B加起来；将A添加到B中
例如：Adding 10 to 4， we’ll get 14. 10加4等于14。

4. add that... 补充说，进一步说
例如：Premier Wen Jiabao answered many questions， adding that Asia is leading the world of economy on the recovery path. 温家宝总理回答了许多问题，又补充说，亚洲正带领世界经济复苏。
