One of the worst drug trades spread across the border between the United States and Mexico. Hills of drug including marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine flows from the northern part of the Mexico to the United States. The drug cartels claim the primary responsibility for such a vicious trade. Even though the Mexican government and the United States join hand to wage war against the drug cartel, the progress can’t meet the expectations of Mexican people who suffer their lives to the vicious gangsters. The reason why the drug cartels are so difficult to deal with is complicated and comprehensive, economically, judicially, and socially
.   The drug cartel owes their ability to threaten the common people’s lives to their weapons and butcher men. They get weapons mainly in two ways; weapons are smuggled from the United States and offered by some top leaders in Mexican army who take bribery from these cartels. Considering that lots of Mexicans lead a pretty poor life and are more willing to risk killing others than starving themselves, it is understandable that the drug cartel can recruit new members continually as the drug deal can produce great profits.
Some Mexican officials take bribery and offer shelter for those drug dealers, particularly in judiciary. According to the corruption watchdog Transparency International, Mexican officials received almost $2.75 billion last year, from which can be seen the seriousness of the corruption in Mexico. The low pay is primary impulse that drove some policemen into illegal matter. As those drug cartels penetrate into the police and judicial system, they get rid of any fear of law violation. As those who criminal accidents to police are likely to suffer avenge from those bribery takers, the crime rate definitely soar in the society. That is why common people would rather tolerate the brutality because of fear both from the drug cartel and the police. In judiciary, some judges, whether bribery takers or revenge worriers, would give no sentence to criminals.
The United States serves as an important drive for the rise of drug deal across the border. The market is so vast in the United States that the drug cartel make their primary profits from smuggling. Besides, weapons also flow from the United States. Money and weapons strengthen the cartel, forming a vicious circle. Even though both government wage war against drug smuggling, those outlaws can still make use of the loophole to penetrate into the border.
The slaughter of common people sparked a wave of opposition against the gangsters. The burden of cracking down on the drug deal fell on the shoulder of the present government leader, as the former government had colluded with the gangsters. The Mexican president drew lessons from Columbia, deeming it urgent to establish a professional team in police and judiciary.
The professionalization of Mexican police and judiciary could help prevent corruption in the team that carried out law enforcement. Even though the president now waged a campaign against those top leaders who colluded with the drug cartel, it was far from success to put an end to the corruption. But the campaign did work and spark confidence in the future.
As the situation became more and more complicated, the government must keep its spirits in fighting against the crime, even though the crack could invite more brutal revenge. Otherwise, it could put the whole nation under great risk and control of the gangsters. The present government needed to strengthen its intelligence work, given the vast network of cartel. The nation should also sign high praise of those who sacrificed fighting against the gangsters, struggling to spark public concern on the issue. Besides, the government could also seek cooperation with automatic nongovernmental organization which fought against the drug cartel. Those who had their relatives slaughtered by the gangsters should be appealed together to form a great organization to oppose criminals. Seeking help from the organization can relieve the stress from the government and broadens its intelligence network, which was greatly important in the drug war.
The drug war greatly disables social stability, so does the squatting. As those gangsters abduct and slaughter common people to take revenge against the government’s war, a wave of social panic spread and impeded the formal functioning of a society. Those shop owners refuse to pay tax on the ground of being robbed. The infrastructure could be destroyed. Lots of Mexicans immigrate to other nations, leaving it more vulnerable to crime. Squatting is also a serious social problem that commonly exists in the developing countries, which could also cause unrest to society. As millions of poor people enact their shanty slum usually at the outskirts of the cities, on the land that they have no title to, with the hope of being unnoticed for years and then claiming land property, the conflict between those squatters and residents or landowners is unavoidable. Squatters are likely to make use of public resources that they don’t deserve and become disharmony makers. Besides, lots of squatter give rise to the amounts of trash, poor social security and the danger of fire disaster. Such problems loom out in the future if the shanty slums are not in proper control.
