On the 20th 2017, the joint force based on American and England army launched the war on Iraq. (Cerf, 4) Some people think America launched this war in order to punish Iraqi government who stored many weapons of mass destruction and supported the terrorists. They think this war is a just war which gives a heavy attack to the terrorism. However, I think the deep reason lies in this war. In my view about this war, three aspects about the deep reason will be given in the following.
Before the specific analysis about the deep reason, some key points are given. The reason why America wanted to launch this war is that America wanted to keep its sovereign national interests in the world. That is to keep its national security and to guarantee the world peace under the American control. Then it can hold its overlord status in the world. This is the global strategy which is promoted by America since 911 event. It is clear that this war plays an important role in the American total strategy in the world. So on basis of this brief analysis about this war, I will analyze the war from the economic view.
Firstly, the economic depression made the American government launch this war. After George Walker Bush took the office, the national economy was trapped into the troublesome situation. Many people lost their jobs and the society was unstable with much crisis. The American government transformed this contradiction into Iraq in order to ease the public pressure imposed on the government. Besides, the Republican Party wanted to earn the vote and prepared for the following president election next year. They wanted to realize George Walker Bush’s reappointment. This is from the political view. What is more, the American government wanted to do some practical tests about its advanced technical weapons in the war with the purpose of accelerating its advanced technology. And meanwhile the war provided a good chance for the munitions merchants who gained high profits in this war. The munitions merchants also gave more supports for George Walker Bush’s reappointment. This war brought many benefits for the military industrial enterprises. In other words, it accelerated the economic development.
Secondly, America wanted to control the oil in Iraq. As is known to all, Iraq is famous for its ample oil. This attracted America and the relevant government wanted to gain many interests by means of this war. On one hand, America wanted to fulfill its national requirement for oil. On the other hand, it wanted to control the oil price in the world. Then it could depress OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries ). After that, the Mideast would function well as oil politics and oil weapon. Moreover, once America control the Mideast oil, it would limit the relevant countries economic development of which the oil relied on the import. What is more, America wanted to control the European and Japanese sources, which made America control their development freely. And thus, it would keep its overlord status in the world.
Thirdly, America wanted to keep the dollar powerful place in the world, which was a big obstacle for Euro development as the world currency. The American government started this plan for long time since Euro was established. Once Euro gained success in the world financial market, it would be a great threat to dollar place in the world. Though many people thought Euro in the initial term would not be a threat to dollar, the American government would not tolerate its appearance. Besides, the unified currency in Europe meant the unified politics. Once the most countries in Europe gathered together to resist America, it would be a nightmare for America. What is more, Euro caused much wealth loss from America. Facing this situation, America needed to take some steps to stop this trend. So America launched this war with the excuse “weapons of mass destruction”. And meanwhile America wanted to the public confidence for Euro which would cause the decrease in the European economy.
To be a brief conclusion, America wanted to hold its overlord status in the world by this war. It wanted to keep its powerful leadership in the politics, culture and military. Though the American government always announced its just behavior, we could not forget the pain on the Iraqi people. The three aspects about the deep reason why America launched this war are given above. So I think America launched this war which made it keep the overlord status in the world.
After exploring the deep reason lying in the Iraq, I want to show the effect brought this war on the world economic pattern. In this sub-topic, some people may think it only affect some countries involved in this war. The overall world economic pattern would be disturbed to some degree. I think it is not true fully. After 911 event, Iraq war became the world attention, which gave an obvious effect on the world situation. Why? Four aspects about this question will be given in the following parts.
Firstly, American unilateralism oversea stood out seriously. (Prestowitz, 23) America was attacked by the terrorism in the 911 event. As is known to all, Afghanistan is the den to the terrorism. So America launched war in Afghanistan which seemed reasonable for the public. And meanwhile many countries gave some necessary help to America. However, up to now, no reasonable and convinced reason is given to the public. Iraq did launch any war on America directly. What is more, no evidence showed that Iraq supported the terrorism. Among the reasons, two convincing reasons would be received by the public to some degree. One is about Saddam’s dictatorship for his people. Another is that Iraq owned many weapons with much destruction. (Simons, 12-24) The former is about internal domestric. The later was not true fully. So this war was resisted by many countries such as France, German, Russia and China.
Secondly, the serious divergence among the powerful countries appeared. Many powerful countries objected this war in public occasion. Iraq crisis had caused much bad effect on the relationship between America and the Europe. At the same time, some divergences in North Atlantic Treaty Organization caused much crisis which threatened the organization.
Thirdly, the world pattern was not stable after the war. Due to the powerful leadership in the politics and military, the American unilateralism appeared in the world. In order to gain more interests in the new world pattern, America made friends in the world. However, America was not willing to give out its unilateralism strategy. Though the world pattern started to change. multi-polarization world pattern did not form. About this war, we can understand why China and Russia objected this war. However, to be puzzled, France and German also objected this war. To some degree, this brought some limitations to the American development.
Fourthly, the international intervention got its support. Whether Iraqi government is democratic or tyrannic is an issue about internal politics. The United Nations objected any behavior on other countries internal politics. It call the world to respect other countries politics. America launched this war which caused the world anxiety about the world peace. Anyone who loves peace would give much objection about this war. At that time, America would lose many friends.
To sum up, Iraq war was launched by America which made America become more powerful. In order to gain higher interests in the world, America launched this war which got much objection from those countries who valued the world peace. Though the Iraq war overturned the old status and governments, the people in Iraq suffered from two-layer pain. One is the loss of shelter and food. The other is the poverty due to the war. America might escape from the Iraqi war. But the shambles left to the people in Iraq. So we need to resist such unilateralism which is a threat to the world peace as well. The world peace should be controlled by the world but not some powerful country. Anyone who breaks the world peace will be punished by the world people.
