Nowadays, the rapid progress of science and technology is obviously reflected by the application of cell phones which have become people’s inseparable daily necessity. Along with prosperous development of smartphone technology, it is undisputed that the advantages brought by smartphones are obvious to all and win the public affection. In fact, the effect of smartphones has been permeated into every aspect of people’s life and has caused great changes of people’s life-style. Then people’s degree of dependence on smartphones is higher and higher and the phenomenon of people’s excessive smartphone addiction becomes increasingly serious. Thus the purpose of this is to present certain individual opinions towards this phenomenon by combining my own personal experiences.

First of all, I would like to talk something about my own personal experiences on this topic. The smartphone has been an indispensable part of my everyday life and it is with me nearly anytime and anywhere. Thus without taking it, I would feel very uneasy and unaccustomed. Every morning, it wakes me up. Instead of immediately getting up, I would firstly browse some latest news of my friend circle through it. Following, I often click its button to play beautiful songs to go with my wash work. When having meals, I would use it to see some wonderful movies or videos or play interesting games. When going out with my friends, we could timely conduct group purchase to enjoy the service with excellent quality and reasonable price. Meanwhile we could also take photos, use related mobile app to beautify those photos and then instantly upload them so as to share with other friends at the first time. Apart from those aspects, I could get in touch with my parents in China just by video telephones etc. Based on the powerful functions, smartphones indeed bring lots of convenience and advantages. However, I gradually find that the use of smartphones occupies too much time in my daily life. Sometimes even when I don’t need to use my cell phone, I still take it out to check whether someone contacts me. Besides, getting together with my friends is like the party of different smartphones because during the meeting time, almost all of them lower heads to play with their cell phones and what we communicate is very little. This situation is very pervasive in today’s society. Thus the problem of excessive smartphone addiction is formed.
From the above, it can be seen that smartphones have played a significant role in today’s world. As long as you pay a little attention, when you are taking the subway, waiting in airport to take your suitcase or in line for something, you could see what people around you are doing. I believe the answer is coincident. The greatest possibility is that those people adopt different ways including chatting on the Internet, playing games or watching videos to spend their boring time. All of these are done by smartphones. Next, it will present certain individual opinions towards the phenomenon of people’s excessive smartphone addiction.
Just like drugs, smartphones make people become numb, vulgar and indifferent. At present, modern people’s smartphones are clever and clever, but their own intelligence is more and more backward. This strange contradictory phenomenon is actually easy to explain. Among making collective ‘stupid’, the role played by smartphones is crucial. Here is an example. For many office workers in Hong Kong, their everyday routine is to absorbedly finish a urgent task when they are in the crowded subway. This task is a game called Candy Crush Saga which doesn’t need any brain to play (Caroline & Gleaves 104). Players just need to put those colorful candies along a line. Updating this game is free, however, most players are even willing to spend money to buy additional ‘life value’ needed by the game. This example is simple but representative. Since the rise of commercial televisions and tabloid culture, the dumbed-down development direction of the society has been the inevitable outcome. But, modern people irrevocably hug ‘stupid’ and are rightfully addicted to behaviors of addictive substances, self-indulgence and dependency. All of these have to be due to fast-changing mobile technology and great popularity of smartphones. As an eye-catching tool, smartphones are without a rival. They are like the most successful artworks which attract our attention by distracting our attention (Maciej, Karin and Franck 354). Today’s society is full of different kinds of relationships. Then the relationship between people and smartphones can be said the great ‘love’ of this era. This is because whenever we are always affectionately staring at mobile phone screens and can’t divert attention. Once, people regarded computers as the ultimate tool to slip the leash and take back freedom. Only with one computer, we can study endlessly and share information with others in time. Based on this, smartphones combine functions of mobile telephones, touch screen computers and various consumer electronics devices (Caroline & Gleaves 104). Thus smartphones should have made users more independent and capable. However, the fact is that smartphones seldom exercise our brains. Instead, just like drugs, they numb our thoughts and let us become trivial, vulgar and lack of thinking ability since, with those convenient and smart tools, people could see many sets of South Korean TV soaps and play uneducated mobile games whenever they like. In spite of the powerful functions of smartphones, few people use them to conduct further study beneficial for their growth. As a result, accordingly the real communication among people becomes more and more distant as well. This is because modern people are always busy playing their smartphones anytime and anywhere. When they spend too much time on those cold machines, they become indifferent gradually.
All in all, smartphones have been the mainstream of the current era. They have deeply influenced every aspect of our social interpersonal relationship and daily behavioral pattern. As the effective communication tools, we should make proper use of smartphones and distinguish the border of reality and the virtual world. Controlling the use frequency of mobile phones and returning to the real life is the essential task for modern people.
