As is known to all, each of us lives on the earth which is as the only one living planet today. Though many meaningful technical explorations have been realized, we cannot live on other planets. However, our living space is full of environmental problems. For instance, we are perplexed by air pollution in daily life due to many factors. So in order to protect ourselves in the coming years, we need to explore the origin of the air pollution. Then facing the air pollution, we need to take some steps to deal with it.
When it comes to the types of the environment problem, we can think of air pollution, water pollution and so on. Different types of the environment problem may generate all kinds of influence on us. (Svenska, 210) For example, the air pollution the smelly stuff that turns the air brown or grey and hovers over urban centers like Los Angeles, Mexico City and Beijing. But air pollution comes in many forms, and may include a number of different pollutants and toxins in various combinations. Air pollution is found everywhere. We often hear of some news about air pollution such as hazy weather in Beijing. The air pollution is harmful for our health of respiratory tract. We may hear of the London Fog Events in 1960s. At that air pollution event, many people especially the children and the old lost their lives due to the persistent heavy air pollution. What is worse, air pollution will increase the prevalence rate of lung cancer. And meanwhile it will influence the plants grow normally which will disturb the daily life.
After some introductions about air pollution, we should explore the origin of the air pollution. There are many different kinds of pollutants. Generally speaking, the much larger problems result from four aspects. The first is Greenhouse gases, it is mainly composed by Carbon dioxide and methane. We call it greenhouse gases, because they take heat into the earth's atmosphere. It will lead to global warming, the rising temperatures will certainly bring about more and more severe weather events. Due to the warm weather, the airflow cannot flow normally which will prevent the air pollutants such as haze separate. Secondly the industrial development brings out much air pollutants. And the environment is being heavily polluted by industrialization. (Falconer, 293-298) It will cause severe air pollution. Following prevalence of global modernization industrialization is introduced everywhere, so is industrial pollution to the globe. The more rapidly where industrialization is accelerated, the more severe there environment pollution is. At the same time, the industrial waste, such as, gas, water and smoke, comprises much toxic substances fatal to human beings. All of these makes the air quality worse and worse. When the air quality reaches its critical value. The air is polluted. Stepping into the industrial age, human beings’ never-ending deforestation, the excessive use and waste of resources and continuous population growth, result in a serious energy crisis. The third origin may be the overcut for the forests. As is known to all, forests not only can contain the water in the soil, but also can prevent the sand into the city. In recent years, with the economic development, the requirement for wood increases year by year. Excessive exploitation for the forests destroys the forests’ zoology. Many places are trapped into desertification which brings much sand into the air. Then the air quality become lower and the people face such serious air pollution.
We have known something about the origin of the air pollution. We also hear of many bad news about the air pollution, so what are the bad sides of the air pollution? Air pollution is harmful to all living things in the world, this hazard can be divided into chronic poisoning, acute poisoning and carcinogenic effects. People who suffer from the poor air will get sick easily. Large Greenhouse gases cause a serious problem-Global warming. Global warming causes global redistribution of precipitation, melting glaciers and permafrost and rising sea levels. It may not only break the ecological balance, but also pose a great threat to man’s existence. The air pollution will do harm to the people and the whole environment. For example, poisonous gas from the factory will dirty the air we breathe, man cannot live without air. Once people breathe the poisonous gas, it can cause cancers, skin diseases and respiratory illness. All in all, it is a severe threat to public health in many regions around the world. At the same time, air pollution is also a terrible problem. It will damage people’s hearting, moreover, air pollution may affect people’s work, study and rest. We all know that air pollution will make one get anger. We can see that the environment problem is a threat to human beings, plants and animals. (Burhenne, 12)
When facing such serious air pollution problem, we need to pay more attention to it. Some necessary steps should be taken to deal with it. (Lazarus, 787) Individually, we must realize that men and nature are an integral unity. We can do what we can in the daily life. We’d better choose to carry out the three R principles, which contain “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”. (Hatta, 121)We should start from the self. Firstly, we must reduce the energy waste, such as turning off the light and faucet when it is not needed, choosing energy efficient products, unplugging appliances and reducing the use of air conditioning. We should develop a good habit of thrift while reminding people around us to refrain from extravagance. If we change our lifestyle, we can save energy and reduce emissions. In addition, we should reduce the products which are bad for the air quality, such as harmful chemical gases. Furthermore, we can try our best to reuse our products. For example, we can reuse our textbook, we can donate needless textbooks to others, in order to make better use of textbook. And we can also borrow books from library instead of buying them. Under that condition, the forests will be saved due to the decreased requirement. When we go shopping, if we forget to bring the shopping bags and have to purchase one plastic bag in the supermarket, we should reuse this plastic bag in the next shopping rather than throw it away. Under this condition, our industries will produce fewer plastic bags and it will decrease the harmful gas into the air directly. Thirdly, we should sort trash for recycle. Things like cans, bottles and card should not be tossed out and disappeared in the landfill, because they can be used again after recycling. Recycling these things can certainly turn the valueless trash in to valuable treasure so that to decrease the harmful air pollutants caused by reproducing these materials. And it will be helpful to improve our gas quality. As responsible individuals we must do what we can do to help reduce, reuse, and recycle what we can at first. In my point of view, the three R principles can benefit air quality. To serve as responsible stewards of planet, we must promote and popularize a low carbon life among the public from every detail in our daily life. In the meantime, we can participate some positive environmental activities, we could also join some organizations to generalize an eco-friendly life style. We can help to encourage our friends, family members and schoolmates to share this thoughts of a greener life. We can also convince people to change their improper behavior to adapt to a more eco-friendly life. As the saying goes,“Many hands make light work.”I believe that the endeavour of each one will absolutely obtain a remarkable and prominent success in the environment protection. On the other hand, the government should develop environment policies, such as kicking the muscle car in the ass with emissions regulations, planning and organizing public lectures about the environment protection and closing unqualified factory. Public security department should strengthen supervision and management of social activities. For instance, government should call on people to plant trees every spring and work out stricter regulations to protect forests. The government should implement sustainable development strategy for a long time and strive on to reconstruct thrift society. The media should pay attention to the air pollution problem. All media should be mobilized to popularize methods to save and preserve energy and call on people to take action. To some degree, air pollution is a global problem, all countries, developing and developed, should cooperate to really solve it. On the one hand, developed countries should lower the threshold of technology transfer to developing countries, especially pollution treatment technologies. On the other hand, developing countries should probe effective pollution decreasing methods to minimize industrial pollution.
To sum up, in order to protect ourselves and our generations, we should be aware of the serious environment problems. Only when we are well aware of the significant of nature to our survival, can we live in perfect harmony with nature. What’s more, everyone, not just government and industry, needs to participate in the fight against the air pollution. We must put the environment protection in to the practice. Man, one of million of creatures on the earth, should not pursue its development at the cost of the earth’s health but protect it to build a more beautiful shared home. If we take action on every ideal that seems good in the moment, the air condition must be improved and the environment will get great progress. Environmental protection is not only a slogan, but, more importantly, is a philosophy, is the new form of culture and civilization. The earlier human beings realize the importance of environmental protection, the earlier a habitable planet will be built.
