Abstract
An excellent movie can not only bring us a visual feast, but also deep thinking and enlightenment. The Shawshank Redemption and The Pursuit of Happiness are two wonderful American inspirational films. Despite that they are different in time, plot, narration and protagonists’ situation, the protagonists’ perseverance and spirit when faced with adversities have made a deep impression on us, and encourage us to stick to our beliefs, awaken hopes and pursue happiness! By analyzing and comparing the two inspirational films, discussing the two protagonists’ different sufferings and the same life attitude and dream, which are relentless pursuit of hope and a happy life, the article reveals the true meaning of life. It is worth deeply thinking about the question that touches our soul. The article mainly elaborates on the protagonists’ life attitude of “sticking to hopes and pursuing happiness”, discusses the profound connotations in detail and makes a summarization on the deep thinking and enlightenment of “hope and happiness” brought by the films. Starting from introduction, the article looks for the different points of the protagonists by character experiences, which give different meanings to their respective “happiness”, while their common points are key to their success, in order to enlighten us on our way to pursuing happiness.
