Abstract
Through a collection of the phenomena of Chinese loan words in current affairs from U.S. major newspapers and magazines, The New York Times and Time, this paper, in a broad sense of borrowings, attempts to analyze the history, causes, and three categories, namely transliteration, loan translation and loan blend. Based on the linguistic corpus and via quantitative method, it further explores Chinese loan words’ impact on both English and Chinese speakers as well as on their values and ideology, aiming to improve students’ learning ability of English vocabulary and skills of cross-cultural communication.

本文通过收集美国主流新闻报刊杂志,即纽约时报和时代周刊中时政新闻中的汉语借用现象,采用语料库和定量探讨的措施,从广义的借词入手,略论了英语新闻语篇中汉语借词的历史、原因,英语论文范文,展开阐释了音译词、意译词及音意合成词三个种类,并进一步研讨了英语新闻语篇中的汉语借用对英汉语言使用者及其价值观和意识形态的作用,英语论文范文,旨在提高学生的英语词汇学习能力和跨文化交际能力。

Language is a system of signs with meanings, governed by rules. People express themselves and communicate with each other by means of the linguistic signs. “Languages, like cultures, are rarely sufficient unto themselves. The necessities of intercourse bring the speakers of one language into direct or indirect contact with those of neighboring or culturally dominant languages.”
With the development of Chinese economy also cross-cultural communications with English-speaking countries, Chinese is gradually emerging into English films, TV programs and mass media, which has attracts experts’ attention over the past years. This paper endeavors to analyze the causes, categories of Chinese loan words from U.S. major newspapers and magazines, namely The New York Times and Time of the past decade. Then it illustrates their impact on language and culture as a complement of the former specialists’ standpoints. |
