  1.1 The Background of the Study
  Today’s domestic primary English Education is still characteristic of the traditional waywhich, explaining words and grammar in an extremely detailed way, takes “knowledge as thecenter of education” as a slogan, with exams as the ultimate goal of primary Englisheducation. Our English teaching is still confined in written English teaching and tapes. In theclassroom, teachers mechanically arrange students to practice according to fixed patterns andtextbooks, and also just teach students vocabulary and grammar, requiring students to reciteand do the exercise repeatedly.Since the establishment of the situated teaching method between the 1940s and 1960s inBritain, situation has been one of the indispensable factors to break the traditional Englishclass teaching. Situated teaching method, that is, brings the visual, tangible and vividsituations into class so as to stimulate the learners' learning motivations and interest, arousethe enthusiasm of participation in English learning, make the learners the initiators tostructure the knowledge and fundamentally improve their English competence.Fundamental Education Curriculum Reform newly formulated by Ministry of Educationpoints out that primary school English teaching is aimed to train the students' listening,speaking, reading and writing abilities, through vivid classroom activities. Attention should bepaid to culture students' English learning interest and guide them to be fond of learning andusing English. Teachers should insist on taking natural surroundings as the major to teachEnglish since experts on how children learn languages generally believe that children areintended to learn languages in natural surroundings. Thus, teachers should make full use ofreal objects, pictures, hand gestures, direct teaching aids and other ways to provide correctlinguistic input and natural or close to natural surroundings for students.In recent years, the educational examples of classroom teaching under situationalapproach have gradually increased. There are also scholars who propose to create life scenesfor classroom teaching. Some researchers on English teaching have also carried out somerelated experimental researches and questionnaires in high schools, colleges and alsouniversities, and the results show: situated teaching can be approved of by students andstudent's marks are also improved. The thesis concluded the past researches and experimentson situated teaching in English class and found out the insufficient part in primary Englishclass: although there has been the primary school English classroom teaching in style of scenedata reports, also might be a good attempt.Conducted in this background from the perspectives of cognitive learning,comprehensive input and affective filter, combined with primary school students'psychological characteristics and fundamental English teaching practice, this study willanalyze how to create the study atmosphere with situations, discuss the methods and strategiesto improve teaching, in order to improve the fundamental English teaching and perfect ourEnglish teaching practice purposes by stimulating students’ interest and creating appropriateatmosphere for English study in primary English class based on students' interest, dailyexperience and cognitive level. ,英语论文英语毕业论文
