Chapter One Introduction
1.1 The Background of the Study
在中国长期被忽视文化教学在外语教学中.老师更注重学生的语言能力,而不是他们的交际能力的高中。在2017年,中国教育部起草了“高中英语课程标准。它指出,在高中外语教学的总体目标是发展学生综合语言应用能力。学生的综合语言能力是由五个部分组成:语言技能,英语论文题目,语言知识,情感态度,学习战略和文化意识。文化意识的目标可分为三个部分:文化知识,文化理解和跨文化交际意识和跨文化交际能力。它要求教师将语言教学与文化教学。在高中,高中英语文化教学的近况是什么?许多探讨已经完成,就可以了。比如,英语论文,有的做的一项探讨对中国在外语教学中的文化教学,有的对学生的跨文化交际能力的一项探讨。他们都从不同的角度进行探讨的文化教学,根据不同的教科书。但很少有人进行探讨基础上,以系统性的方式由北京师范大学出版社出版的高中英语文化教学。所以笔者决定来探讨它。
In a long term, culture teaching was neglected in foreign language teaching in China.Teachers pay more attention to students’ linguistic competence instead of theircommunication competence in senior high schools. In 2017, the Ministry of Education ofPRC drafted The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools. It states that the general goal of foreign language teaching in senior high schools is to develop students’comprehensive language competence. Students’ comprehensive language competence is madeup of five parts: language skills, language knowledge, feelings and attitudes, learning strategyand cultural awareness. Cultural awareness objectives can be divided into three parts: culturalknowledge, culture understanding and intercultural communicative awareness andintercultural communicative competence. It requires teachers to integrate language teachingwith culture teaching. What is the current situation of English culture teaching in senior highschools? Many researches have been done on it. For instance, some makes a study on theChinese culture teaching in foreign language teaching; some makes a study on the students’intercultural communicative competence. They all make a study on culture teaching fromdifferent perspectives based on different textbooks. But few make a study on the cultureteaching based on the Senior High English published by Beijing Normal University Press in asystematic way. So the author determines to make a study on it.
1.2 The Purpose of the Study
It has been four years since the new curriculum reform was carried out in HenanProvince. In order to find out the current situation of English culture teaching in senior highschools, students’ competence in expressing Chinese culture in English and students’intercultural communicative competence, the author made a survey on them based on theSenior High English published by BNU Press in No.1 High School of Xiuwu County, HenanProvince. It includes the following research questions.
(1) What is the current situation of English culture teaching in senior high schools?
(2) How well do the senior high school students express Chinese culture in English?
(3) How is the level of intercultural communicative competence of senior high schoolstudents?
In this thesis, the author uses questionnaires, tests and interview to find the answers tothese questions. The questionnaires can be divided into two categories: questionnaire forteachers and questionnaire for students. According to the survey results, some feasiblesuggestions for culture teaching are given so as to improve the English culture teaching insenior high schools.
1.3 The Significance of the Study
The study on English culture teaching in senior high schools has special significance inforeign language teaching practice. In the thesis, the author makes a through survey on thedistribution of cultural contents (Module 1—Module 8) in Senior High English published byBNU Press, which
