Chapter 1 Introduction

This chapter mainly consists of three sections which are research background,research objectives and significance as well as structure of the thesis. In the section ofresearch background, problems in English RI will be stated, besides that, this thesiswill attach more attention to the necessity of application of ACs in English RI.

1.1 Research Background
Reading is the key to success in higher education, especially for senior highschool students. In classroom teaching, teachers often spend a lot of time teachingreading as well as students spare no effort to do reading exercises. Not only becausereading is a difficult issue in language teaching and learning, but also lies in that itholds a large score in CEE of English test. As we all know, improving students’reading ability is a long and tough process, teachers should grasp effective andcomprehensive strategies, and students should form good reading habits. However,both teachers and students have defects in these two aspects. In the following twoparagraphs, it will be explained in greater details.From the angle of English teachers in senior high school, most of the teachers arelimited by the traditional teaching methods that based on grammar-translation, whichoveremphasizes the teaching of grammar knowledge, neglecting the training oflanguage skills. What’s more, teaching process is too dependent on the teacher whobasically control the whole classroom, so that students have less chance to participatein the interaction of the classroom activity. At the same time, the learning method istoo single that only based on memorizing grammar rules and sentences, as well as thetexts and words mechanically, this teaching method inevitably causes boredom of theclassroom teaching. In other words, most of the teachers have been influenced bygrammar-translation method for a long time so that they often separate a whole textinto discrete language points, besides that, they often ignore the logical and semanticrelations among linguistic elements when they are teaching English reading, whichwill lead to a confusing phenomenon that most of the students understand themeaning of every word, but they can’t interpret the entire sentence or whole discourse.All in all, this teaching method leads to an unclear teaching effect, worse still, it willdampen students’ enthusiasm for English learning. Also this is one of the biggestreasons that students have a poorer command of English reading.

1.2 Research Objectives and Significance
As we have mentioned above, there are some problems in English RI in seniorhigh school. However, ACs have shed a new light on English RI. The present thesiswants to help teachers and students to have a better acquaintance with ACs throughplenty of investigations, for example, the comparison between Chinese and EnglishACs which has been applied to the high school textbooks. Through a lot of analysisworks, it tends to reveal the differences and similarities of application of Chinese andEnglish ACs in senior high school, and also in accordance with some explanations.Besides, in order to verify the effectiveness, some empirical study will be conducted,it aims to show how to apply ACs into English RI. In a word, we can conclude theresearch objectives that lie in two aspects: firstly, this study will provide teachingenlightenment for teachers, and secondly, it will improve students’ awareness of usi,英语论文网站英语毕业论文
