1.1 Introduction引言
Education is one of the main forces of the development of society, among whichteachers are the key to improve education quality, and what's more, they play an importantrole in educating the young generation. Nowadays, mental health education is beingpopularized and strengthened in China and more and more attention has been paid to it,soteachers’ mental heath have an unprecedented influence upon students. Therefore, only whenteachers themselves are mentally healthy can they for the one hand create a positiveenvironment for the students, for another, arouse the students' passion for learning and helpstudents to develop healthy personalities whole-heartedly. While we can't ignore the fact thatstudies have shown that teacher burnout has intensified in recent years, and this negative stateof mind will seriously affect the mental health of teachers and of course their role playing asteachers.Freudenberger, the American clinical psychologist, first used the term “burnout”. Sincethen psychologists have shown great concern over burnout in different fields. In late 1980s,research on burnout began to extend to the field of education. People gradually find thatburnout has become one of the outstanding problems in education field worldwide. Burnouthas a great influence on teachers' physical and mental health, teaching quality and thestability of teacher team. What's more, it has a direct negative impact on the development ofteachers and students. Research both home and abroad has shown that about 60%-70% ofteachers are suffering from stress repeatedly, and at least 30% teachers have obvioussymptoms of bumout. The survey of Chinese teachers' living conditions, which was made byRenmin University of China and Siiia.com in 2017,showed that 56.1% of teachers surveyedhad the symptoms of "high-cynicism", which clearly indicates more than 50% of teachers arenot as enthusiastic and devoted as when they just began their career. They usually finish theirshare of work unwillingly and sometimes are forced to do so. The college where the writerworks is not an exception. Many teachers in the college have lost their enthusiasm forteaching. They just want to finish the task of teaching every week, neither showing interest inthe students nor concern about them. They choose to be alienated from their colleagues anddon't want to communicate with others and not to mention the sense of accomplishment. They muddle along day after day, just like the old Chinese saying goes “so long as oneremains a monk, one goes on tolling the bell.” It's obvious that these teachers are sufferingfrom burnout. When the teachers have burnout, it will not only affect the normal teaching incolleges and schools but also the physical and mental health of the teachers. Almost everyyear there are reports about teachers who committed suicide because of too much stress fromwork, and some others suffer from depression even schizophrenia. What makes things worseis that it will bring irretrievable influence upon the development of students' mental health. Therefore, teacher bumoul must be paid close attention to and given high priority by theresearchers and administrative departments at different levels.
