ABSTRACT
Ulysses, which is noted for the stream of consciousness, now has two famous complete Chinese versions of Ulysses, one by Xiao Qian and Wen Jieruo, the other Jin Di. Both of them have a great number of fans in the literary world, but which is better is a hot controversial topic for the scholars specializing in translation theory and translation comparison. This thesis, based on the theme–rheme theory, through comparison and contrast of The Chapter 18 of the two Chinese versions and the original Ulysses, aims to find out which one is comparatively closer in the structure and the meaning to the original one, so as to reveal the reasons of the different features presented by employing theme-rheme theory and rewriting theory.

摘 要
《尤利西斯》作为意识流小说的代表作,当前有两个著名的完整中译版本:萧乾、文洁若译本,金堤译本。这两个版本在文学界都有大量的拥护者,英语论文范文,因此两个版本孰优孰劣一直是个热议话题,不少学者都基于翻译理论和翻译比较均作过对比探讨。本文以主述位理论和改写理论为基础,英语论文,以《尤利西斯》第十八章作为探讨对象,将两个译本与原文进行对比探讨,以揭示两种译本呈现不同特点的原因。

Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Introduction to Ulysses
In 1922, Ulysses was published, which was a remarkable event of modern European novels. For that it’s not only the beginning of stream of consciousness novels, but also the most classic one of stream of consciousness novels. Therefore, Ulysses was rewarded as one of the top 100 influential English-novels in the world (20th century).
This novel, Ulysses, mainly talks about the experiences and inner thoughts of three main figures (Stephen Dedalus, Leopold Bloom and Molly Bloom) in one day (Jun.16th.1904), which has 18 chapters, and could be divided into three sections.
