Abstract:
Addition is an important translation method in E-C translation of news headlines. The author of the thesis intends to find an answer to the following research questions concerning the employment of addition in the above-mentioned field. First, why is addition frequently employed in translation of English headlines? Second, what is added during the translation process? Third, is addition generally used alone or is it closely related to other translation methods? The thesis is composed of four parts. The first part is a general introduction of the background of the research; the second part is an overview of English news headlines including the definition, significance, and features of them; the third part discusses the significance of addition in translation of English news headlines and the elements which are added in the renditions; finally, there is a conclusion to address the above-mentioned research questions.

增译是新闻标题英汉翻译中使用的一种重要翻译措施。本文作者旨在解答在上述领域中与增译的使用相关的如下探讨问题：一，为何英语新闻标题翻译中频频使用增译？二，在翻译过程中增译了哪些内容？三，英语论文，增译一般是单独使用还是与其它翻译措施结合使用？本文分为四个部分。第一部分简要介绍探讨背景；第二部分概述英语新闻标题，英语毕业论文，包括其定义、重要性以及特点；第三部分讨论增译在英语标题翻译中的重要性以及译文中增加的元素；最后一部分是结论，用以解答上文中提出的探讨问题。

1. Introduction
Human beings traveled over long distances to communicate with each other for thousands of years. Interaction seemed very inconvenient before modern transportation vehicles and telecommunications were invented. As people exchanged products and ideas, Philosophy, religion, language and other aspects of culture spread, mixed and developed. With the advent of electronic communications, billions of people are connected in new ways and they do not need to travel to know each other and broaden their knowledge any more. In this age of globalization, the interchange of world views, ideas, and other aspects of culture is quickened and intensified. The dissemination of knowledge is much more available than any other age in human history. Now, one that does not keep up with quickly renewed knowledge will definitely become behindhand soon.
