Abstract
The formation and development of a neologism has a close relationship with its society and culture. In the process of the communication and transmitting information of politics, technology and education between different countries and regions, newspaper, as a quick and convenient means of mass media, serves as a bridge. However, in translating practice, how to clear the cultural barriers and to convey the information from the source language faithfully and smoothly is still a difficult issue. This thesis makes a research on the problems in the process of news neologism translation from the perspective of German functionalist skopos translation theory. And with a large number of translation examples of news neologisms, some translation strategies have been provided to deal with the difficulties caused by cultural barriers. This research could help press translators express the information and ideas to foreign readers more appropriately and successfully, so that the mass media can function better.

1 Introduction
As a quick and convenient means of mass media, newspaper plays a major role in propagating newly emerging things and at the same time spreading numerous neologisms. These new words not only enrich people’s everyday vocabulary but also endow people with new expressive abilities in communication. And news neologisms are playing a more and more significant role in international communication.
However, up till now, the works concerning neologisms translation are mainly C-E and E-C dictionaries, which are not only without high-rate accuracy but also difficult for people to understand because of a shortage of detailed explanations. Thus, it is a demanding urgent task to explore continually both theory and practice in neologism translation.
