摘 要
长久以来,著名作家钱钟书所写的中文原著《围城》和 Jeanne Kelly,Nathan K. Mao 所译的英译本一直受到海内外读者的追捧。英译本的成功很大部分是因为译者应用了大量的翻译策略,成功处理了著作中的各种中文语言现象,英语论文题目,尤其是典型的幽默语言。作为两种截然不同的翻译策略,英语毕业论文,归化和异化,在翻译过程中发挥了很大的影响。在对《围城》和其英译本做了详细探讨后,可以发现异化对英译本的成功尤其是幽默语言的成功翻译起了主要的影响。通过《围城》和其英译本来探讨归化和异化两种翻译策略的运用,尤其是探讨幽默语言的翻译策略,其目的在于研讨如何将幽默效果最大限度的传达给目的语读者。

Abstract
For a long time, the original Chinese novel Fortress Besieged written by the famous writer Ch’ien Chung-shu (Qian Zhongshu) and its English version translated by Jeanne Kelly and Nathan K. Mao are very popular with many readers from all around the world. The success of the English version largely lies on the translators’ triumphant use of translation strategies, and they have successfully processed with a variety of Chinese language phenomenon in this novel, especially some classic humorous language. As is known to all, domestication and foreignization, working as two main opposite strategies, play a very important role in the field of translation. After a detailed study of the original version and its English version of Fortress Besieged, it can be found that foreignization makes major contribution to the success of the translated version, particularly the success of the translation of humorous language. In this thesis, the English version of the novel Fortress Besieged and its original version are studied by comparison and contrast to investigate the application of the domestication and foreignization in the process of translation, especially the translation of humorous language. And the purpose of studying them is to make the translation understandable and maintain foreignness of the original text and the effect of humorous language to the maximum to the target readers.

1. Introduction
Nowadays, Chinese culture is gaining more and more attention from foreign countries. Given this situation, to introduce to other countries about our home culture extensively and properly is very urgent and important. Owing to its magic power, humor has played a vital role in culture and various fields of people’s life. Humor is dispensable in relieving stress and adjusting human’s relationship. Scholars and translators have studied humor from many different perspectives, such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, and literary criticism etc. Fortress Besieged, a classic humorous work of Ch’ien Chung-shu (Qian Zhongshu), is just a good sample to study humor. Fortress Besieged has been enjoying high reputation since it was first published more than half a century ago, and it is regarded as the funniest and probably the greatest novel in the history of the modern Chinese literature.
