Abstract: Tourist texts play an important role in the development of tourism industry. Their translation is a purposeful action possessing the skopos of achieving cultural exchanges, realizing necessary linguistic conversions and facilitating aesthetic communication between the English and Chinese cultures. Therefore translators should render the culture-loaded parts carefully and find the right ways of overcoming the cultural obstacles and thus realize the cultural skopos. Belonging to different linguistic families, English and Chinese possess a variety of linguistic differences as well. Therefore translators should also make some necessary linguistic conversions in order to bridge the linguistic gaps and achieve the linguistic skopos. Chinese and English people have different aesthetic preferences as well. Chinese tourist texts often contain many ornate words. Four-character phrases are frequently used to create a neat and elegant image, while the western tourists prefer the brief and clear versions. Therefore translators must make some necessary changes to fulfill the aesthetic skopos. |
