1 Introduction
The rapid development of Chinese economy has great effect on the push of popularity of English learning. And the needs of English to cooperate and communicate with people all around the world encourage people to learn English. Therefore, a great number of people spend much time studying English. However, they find it is a challenge. The aims of the present study are to find a pleasant way— watching movies, for students to learn English zealously and efficiently, in addition, to cultivate good habits of autonomous learning. As a matter of fact, scholars have explored this innovative way ever since the last century. As is put by Long Qianhong, film is a very effective medium for language teaching, especially in teaching listening and speaking (2017:91). The advantages of learning English through movies have long been demonstrated by many scholars (e.g.Hu Honghui, 2017; Pangyan, 2017; Wangyan, 2017; Xinghao, 2017), and they regard it as a liberated form of learning English from the fetters of the tradition. It can encourage students to acquire the knowledge actively but not to receive those skills passively. On the basis of the previous studies, this paper lays the emphasis on the ways of improving English through movies. The study mainly involves the relevant guiding theory, the problems students may run into, the ways to solve the corresponding difficulties and the ways of improving listening and speaking while and after watching movies.
