Effects of Global Student Organizations on English Proficiency of Chinese College Students: An Experience of AIESEC
Abstract
Global Student Organizations came to China in the early twenty-first century and have been developed for over ten years. It is a newly arisen trend in China for college students to take part in the organizations. Young people choose to participate in different organizations based on their diverse visions, values and operation methods. They are willing to join the global organizations as they want to improve their soft skills and English proficiency. Then in what way the effects on English proficiency have been aroused of the Chinese college students?
The study, using AIESEC as an example, employs some second-language acquisition theories as its theoretical foundation and adopts case study, questionnaire and interview as the research methods. It first gives a brief introduction of AIESEC and its recent data in China; then it explains the efforts on English proficiency of the global exchange program and daily operation events of AIESEC with several typical examples of AIESEC members. At last, it provides some suggestions for Chinese college students in global student organizations on improving English proficiency.
The result of this thesis will be a complement to the literature on practical guidance of second language acquisition in a specific perspective, and be able to provide some reference for the students who want to improve their English proficiency in the global student organizations.
